Annual Art Awards Ceremony—Outstanding Achievement in the Arts
Mayor Denny Doyle and the Beaverton Arts Commission celebrate the recipients of the Outstanding Achievement in the Arts Awards where students, individuals, organizations and businesses are recognized and honored for their significant contributions to the arts.
The talents of Beaverton’s youth continue to astound me year after year. Our community is truly brimming with support for the arts. These sensational art students, businesses and individuals exemplify this support with their invaluable contributions and efforts to foster the arts in Beaverton.

Nominations & Honors

Nominated by their peers and selected by the Board of Directors of the Beaverton Arts Commission, the individuals, businesses and organizations represented will be honored for their contributions to the arts. Student honorees are nominated by their teachers and selected by an arts education panel and approved by the Beaverton Arts Commission Board of Directors. Four ‘Outstanding High School Visual Art Students’ and two ‘Outstanding Performing Art Students’ will each receive a $1,000 scholarship sponsored by the Beaverton Arts Foundation and Southminster Presbyterian Church Celebration of Creativity.
2011 Business, Organization and Individual Winners

President’s Award: Kevin Hoover
Kevin is being recognized for his commitment and dedication to the BAC. He is a current BAC board member, past BAC board president, member of the Performing Arts Center Blue Ribbon Task Force and BAC liaison to the City’s Visioning Advisory Committee. Beyond his involvement in these committees, Hoover serves as an ambassador at all BAC events and is a consistent volunteer for the Beaverton Civic Theatre. -
Arts Leadership Award: Dick Schouten, Washington County Commissioner
Commissioner Schouten is being honored for his efforts to advocate for public support for Washington County arts organizations at both the county level and in the tri-county region. In addition, he is a consistent and generous financial donor to the BAC. -
Volunteer of the Year: Gayle Seely
Seely has provided countless hours of volunteer service and expertise to the BAC and Beaverton Arts Foundation. Her volunteerism during this year’s Mayor’s Ball, the Beaverton Arts Foundation’s annual fund-raising event, enabled the Foundation to raise more than $20,000 to support of the BAC’s arts education and scholarship programs. -
Art in the Marketplace Award: Artisan Renovations
Howard Radin and Kathryn McDougall Radin of Artisan Renovations have taken the initiative to transform their residential design build showroom into a multipurpose venue for the display of local art in surroundings more like home, rather than a traditional gallery. This innovative approach is the Radin’s way of giving back to the local artistic community by providing a much needed and accessible revolving art venue. -
Patron of the Arts Award: Tom and Kristen Boothe
The BAC is honored to have the tremendous support of Tom and Kristen Boothe who have given invaluable financial and in-kind contributions to the Beaverton Arts Foundation. Tom Boothe is a member of the Beaverton Arts Foundation’s board and, as an attorney, offers his legal expertise to the organization. The Boothes were also responsible for providing complementary wine for all the guests who attended this year’s Mayor’s Ball. -
Outstanding Business in the Arts Award: The Standard Insurance
The Standard has been a longtime sponsor of the BAC’s Visual Arts Showcase and Mayor’s Ball events. The BAC has also been privileged to have several Standard employees serve on its board of directors throughout its history. -
Outstanding Business in the Arts Award: Arthur Murray Dance Studios
The BAC is pleased to present this award to Arthur Murray Dance Studios in recognition of their dedication to sharing dance with the community. Arthur Murray has also shown tremendous dedication in supporting the arts by acting as the title sponsor for the Mayor’s Ball both in 2010 and 2011.
